FAQ

From which part of Italy does your family originate?

Our nonno ("grandfather") Francesco Fiorito was born and raised on the island of Sicily, in the beautiful Taormina at the foot of Mt. Etna. It is here that he met our grandmother and migrated with her to The Netherlands. The Italian part of our family lives in Taormina, a place well-worth visiting.

What does Limone di Siracusa IGP stand for?

Certain agricultural products are protected in the EU as they are of exceptional quality. IGP means Indicazione Geografica Protetta, or PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) in English. The lemons are from the protected geographical area of Siracusa. We are very proud that our lemons are protected by this legislation. Other well-known high quality products carrying this indication are Champagne, Parma Ham and Parmigiano Reggiano.

Do you use organic lemons?

Yes-absolutely. To be honest, we believe that all limoncello should be made exclusively with organic lemons. The skin of lemons is used to make limoncello. Non-organic lemons are waxed and sprayed with pesticides. So, it would be fair to say that if we did use regular lemons, we would be poisoning you!

What is Limoncello Superiore?

Limoncello Superiore is an international hallmark developed by producers of limoncello. Limoncello bottles with the hallmark Limoncello Superiore contain a premium limoncello with a guaranteed quality.

Limoncello Superiore is made with:

• 100% natural lemons
• More than 300 grams of lemons per liter
• Solely manually peeled lemons
• Less than 250 grams of sugar per liter
• And an alcohol percentage between 30-32%

Is your limoncello still handmade?

Yes, our lemons are still peeled by hand, as only then can we continue to preserve that exclusive mild taste of our limoncello.

What do you do with the peeled lemons?

After the lemons are peeled, the lemons are collected by a juice company in order to make lemon juice. This way nothing is wasted. We feel this is the least we can do for a better global environment.

Why do you use a swing-top bottle?

Never in our wildest dreams did we believe we would set-up our own limoncello business as we have today. Making limoncello was our passion and our hobby and we were making it in our own kitchens. We found this bottle was easy to close and could be used over and over again. Now it stands for our craftsmanship and symbolises our humble beginnings.

Can you email us your limoncello recipe?

Ahh...let me think... uhmm...no.

What kind of alcohol do you use for your limoncello?

We use 96% grain alcohol.

Can we buy alcohol – used to make limoncello- directly from you?

No, you cannot. The sale of pure alcohol (96%) is strongly regulated by the government.

Where can I buy Limoncello di Fiorito?

Just have a look at our store locator, for the nearest location. It is also for sale in various webshops.

Where can I buy the exclusive Limoncello di Fiorito giftbox?

Exclusive is the correct wording here, it is not for sale everywhere. However, if you are interested please send an email to info@fiorito.nl and we will be happy to help you.

Can I become a Limoncello di Fiorito distributor?

Yes we are looking for distributors. If you are interested please send an email to info@fiorito.nl

Our lemon fields in Sicily:

So special they are protected by the EU and are called Limone di Siracusa IGP. Lemons of the highest quality.

On Wednesdays and Thursdays we pick the best Limone di Siracusa IGP by hand.

Friday is selection day.

Only the best lemons will be chosen for our limoncello. After selection the lemons are soaked in a water bath and are transported.

On Mondays our lemons arrive and are given another water bath to freshen up.

The lemons are hand-peeled in order to avoid any white pith in our limoncello.

The peeled lemons are brought to a juicing company to make lemon juice. Nothing is wasted.

The lemon zest is poured in a large tank filled with alcohol.

The alcohol extracts all the essential oils and flavors from the zest, leaving only the best.

Before bottling the lemon extract is mixed with sugar and water.

The quality of our limoncello is tested personally, by us. Only the best is good enough to bottle.

Bottled & closed manually

The end of our bottle-line and Fiorito is ready for consumption.

This is how you make genuine limoncello!
